To All ECCC Student Athletes,
I regret to inform you that the fall 2020 Mountain Bike and Cyclocross race seasons are cancelled.
We have been gathering information about putting on safe events, meeting or exceeding local and state requirements to ensure the health and safety of all participants. It seems the Northeast is on track to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, but outbreaks among colleges and universities are possible as students arrive from high infection rate areas. And so we face many uncertainties about transmission of COVID-19 on and off campuses this fall.
We also wanted to be sure we would have enough participation to have fun and fair races. Trends indicate that travel to sporting events will be restricted, if allowed at all. Cancelling the season is our only choice to guarantee the health and safety of you, the staff, and faculty at your schools, as well as your families and communities when most of you go home this Thanksgiving break.
In the meantime we are working, along with USAC and other collegiate conferences, to plan and host events in lieu of races. We are also open to and supportive of any ideas you all have for club or conference to hold events and recruit new members. We ask that you please share these ideas and events with us, so that we can not only support your efforts in putting them on and attracting new members, but also share them with other schools and help each other maintain the morale that makes collegiate cycling so positive and fun.
As we did for this fall season, we will plan for the spring 2021 Road season, and I hope to see you all there.
